Ex-MLA booked for raping, threatening woman
Bhandara: The Bhandara police on Wednesday booked Avinash Warjurkar, former Congress MLA from Chimur assembly constituency, for allegedly raping a woman at gunpoint. According to the complainant woman, Warjurkar, who earlier had good relations with her family, has also threatened to kill her husband and young son if she did not fulfil his sexual demands.

The woman claimed that Warjurkar raped her at gunpoint on November 8 last year at a hotel in Bhandara where she had gone with a family friend. Later, he took her in his car to a resort in Pench and raped her again, the woman told cops.
The woman claims she narrated the incident to her family which chose not to lodge a police complaint then fearing backlash from society. Warjurkar took advantage of the situation and started sending SMS and calling her on cell phone, the woman told cops. It was after Warjurkar allegedly threatened to kill her husband and son, she decided to lodge a complaint. Bhandara police station officer Jayvant Chavhan said Warjurkar has been booked under section 376 of the IPC.
